The ego is not a little red devil on your shoulder. It’s more like a needy narrator that keeps talking over God. It doesn’t usually sound “evil.” It sounds reasonable. It says: “Make it about you.” “Protect your image.” “Prove yourself.” “Win.” “Be right.”

And then—like a drama queen who started the drama—it wonders why you feel exhausted.
